Frequently Asked Questions
Shopkeepers and customers commonly use the terminology alike. The actual meaning behind Indian Gold is the belief that the purity of the gold is as high as possible. Different countries in the world use 9 carat, 14 carat or 18 carat gold, 21 and 22 carat gold. In South Asian countries like India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Malaysia and Singapore where consumers look at gold as an “investment” The quality of gold used is almost always better than 18-carat gold.
This higher purity gold content has then incorrectly been labelled as Indian gold possibly because India is the largest consumer of high carat gold in the world and hence the misnomer. In fact all countries are able to make 22 carat gold and it is incorrect to believe that the only place in the world or the best place to buy 22 carat gold is from India.
There are several places to buy 22 carat gold – especially South Asia (e.g. India) and most of the middle eastern countries out of which Dubai has a very large consumption of high carat gold.. A common concern wherever you purchase the gold is whether or not the gold is as advertised – the 22 carat gold jewellery you have bought may turn out to be 18 carat!. Except in countries where there is high quality control and in the UK where it is mandatory for the seller (retailer) to hallmark the jewellery before selling it to the customer.
Unlike India, the hallmarking system is mandatory – meaning that jewellery retailers are required by law to ensure that the gold they sell (above 1g in weight) is hallmarked by one of the UK Assay offices (London, Birmingham, Sheffield or Edinburgh). All of the Assay offices are overseen by the British hallmarking Council which ensures their compliance to the required high standards.
Not only are jewellery retailers required to have their gold items hallmarked but they must also display on their premises the statutory notice, which describes the approved hallmarks.
If purchasing gold items in the UK, consumers should ask for the hallmarks in the jewellery to be shown to them so that they are safe in the knowledge that what they are purchasing is as advertised.

It is always better to measure and find your exact size, be it a bangle or a ring, before making a purchase. But a lot of times people tend to buy sizes that do not compliment the size of their wrists/fingers and therefore we are often asked about how to reduce or increase the size of rings and bangles.
To ensure that you do not make a purchase that you would have to get altered later, here are a few size charts that you could refer to for a smoother experience.
Use a ring you wear on the same finger as the one you need to size.
Match the inside edge of the ring to the circle closest in size.
Size up if you don’t get an exact match, or if you’re considering a band wider than 5mm. If you are still not fully satisfied, for an exact measurement, visit your jeweller.
- Use a narrow piece of string or dental floss to wrap around your finger at the base.
- Mark the place where the string overlaps and then lay it flat on a table.
- Use a ruler with millimetre markings to measure it very carefully.
- Then compare your measurement with the table below to find the closest figure, and check the corresponding letter -that’s your UK ring size
45.5mm – G | 53.8mm – N |
46.7mm – H | 55mm – O |
48mm – I | 56.3mm – P |
48.7mm – J | 57.6mm – Q |
49.9mm – K | 58.9mm – R |
51.2mm – L | 60.1mm – S |
52.5mm – M | 61.4mm – T |
How to size a ring that you already own Use our ring size chart to size a ring that you already own. Print out the chart, making sure that your printer settings say “No Scaling” (100%). (If you are uncertain, measure the circumference of one of the circles to be sure.) Then find a ring that you already own (make sure it’s the right finger – but if it’s not, this is still going to help you to get close to the right size).
The circles in the chart represent finger circumference, so you want the ring to sit on the outside of the circle – that’s a fit. If the ring you’re using is for a bigger or smaller finger than the one you wanted to measure, go up or down one size when you order.
This method is helpful if you want to find out the measurement of your existing bangle in order to compare it with the ones you are looking to purchase. To measure the size of your existing bangle, take a scale and put it over the bangle in a way that it covers it fully, horizontally. Now mark the opposite points where the scale touches the bangle along its inner edges so that you can find out the measurement of its inner diameter. Always try to measure the bangle’s inner diameter in millimetres to ensure accuracy and you can further convert it into any other unit if needed. Once you have, just evaluate the numbers with the table that follows.
When it comes to hand ornaments, bangles are one of the many accessories. There are endless number of designs and styles that one can find when looking for their ideal bangle designs but they are majorly divided into three broad categories mentioned further.
Solid Cylinder Bangles: These types of solid cylinder bangles are the most popular and perhaps the oldest ones. These solid bangles are basically continuous cylindrical structures that run smoothly without any joints or hindrances and can be effortlessly slid through one’s wrist.
SPLIT CYLINDER BANGLES: As the name suggests, the split cylindrical bangles go around one’s wrist covering 365° but are split into two parts with an opening and a closing mechanism added to the edges. This feature allows for a better silhouette and a snugger fit. The split cylinder bangles are also popularly known as cylindrical spring bangles.
CUFF BANGLES: Cuff bangles are a bold and modern take on the traditional cylindrical bangle. These are way more experimental than the traditional cylindrical bangles. With more emphasis on design, aesthetics and ergonomics, cuff bangles tend to have a better structure and design along with increased sturdiness. They don’t need an occasion, rather they can be diversely and effortlessly carried. Their structure isn’t defined; they could be circular, ovalish or in other shapes with an opening on the back, the side or even on the front for that matter.
Bangle Size | Diameter(Inches) | Diameter(MM) |
2-2 | 2.12 | 54.00 |
2-4 | 2.25 | 57.20 |
2-6 | 2.37 | 60.30 |
2-8 | 2.50 | 63.50 |
2-10 | 2.62 | 63.70 |
2-12 | 2.75 | 69.90 |
2-14 | 2.87 | 73.00 |
3 | 3.00 | 76.30 |
To ascertain your wrist size, all you would need is a measuring tape or a simple thread along with a ruler. Once you have the above-listed things with you, fold your wrist in a way that your thumb and the little finger come together. Hold that position while you measure along the widest part of your hand with the help of a measuring tape or a thread. If you used a measuring tape, you would have the numbers in front of you that can be further evaluated against the chart provided below and on the other hand, if you used a thread instead, just place it against the ruler to get the exact length and further evaluate the same against the chart provided ahead. The above steps therefore would help you get your bangle size.
Bangle Size(Indian) | Circumference(Inches) | Circumference(MM) |
2-2 | 6.68 | 169.7 |
2-4 | 7.07 | 179.6 |
2-6 | 7.46 | 189.5 |
2-8 | 7.85 | 199.4 |
2-10 | 8.24 | 209.3 |
2-12 | 8.64 | 219.5 |
2-14 | 9.03 | 229.4 |
3 | 9.42 | 239.3 |
Although it is always better to measure and find your exact bangle size before making a purchase, people often tend to go for sizes that do not compliment their wrists and therefore we are often asked about how to reduce the size of the bangle.
To get your bangle size reduced, you can find a jewellery craftsman nearby and share your exact measurements with them. Further, you could get the bangle size reduced by getting the extra length cut out from the bangle and then getting the edges soldered back together. Once done, the bangle would need a few finishing touches and would be perfect for you to wear.
When not sure about what size of bangle to buy, it is safer to opt for the standard size of bangle. Standard size or average size is the one that is the most popular amongst the majority of women. The average bangle size is between 7 to 7.5 inches. The bangle should sit between your wrist bone at the base of your hand.
There are numerous designs and shapes of bangles as per personal preferences of the wearers, just like that the sizes too vary from one person to another. Therefore the size of the bangles made for your wrist would differ from the sizes that would have been made for other wrists.
Necklaces are usually made in six standard lengths, depending on which the necklace creates a unique silhouette that falls beautifully, as depicted in the pictures ahead, to sit at different positions and places on one’s body. Based on the same the necklaces are categorised into the following:
Size Guides
Necklaces and chains are designed in diverse styles, silhouettes and lengths. We suggest that before you pick one for yourself or your loved ones, try to understand their style preferences to make sure of the style and length that they would prefer. Once you have done that, you can assess the rest based on neck size, personality and attires
One can measure the neck size easily by using a sewing measuring tape. Wrap the measuring tape around the base of your neck to determine your perfect neck size. In case you do not have a sewing measuring tape, you can use a thread or even a ribbon. Wrap either one of them around the base of your neck, mark the spot where both ends meet, and then lay it against a scale to determine neck size.

It’s always good to know your lobe size–the length from your piercing to the edge of your ear lobe or helix. This measurement will serve as a reference for you when looking at earring sizes and dimensions.
Measure your lobe size with a straight ruler and note it down in centimetres or millimetres.
Stud earring sizes can vary from 0.25-4cm. In general, a 1cm (0.39″) stud may cover or sit on your earlobe comfortably.
Diamond studs:
- Measured by carat weight and not size in cm/mm
- The weight indicated is per pair, not per stud unless otherwise noted.
- Depending on the cut, the stud size/dimensions can vary. As a general guide, diamond studs range from small 0.25ct.w per pair, measuring ≅0.32cm, to large 2.00ct.w per pair, measuring ≅0.65cm
- Drop earrings:
- In general, your comfortable length may be around 4-6cm (1.5″-2.3″). A drop pendant earring of 7-9cm (2.5″-3.5″) may reach just below your jaw line or half-way down your neck.
- Lengths start from your piercing and can go up to 18-20cm.
- The best way to know what size is best for you is to measure, using a ruler, from your piercing to your preferred length.
